Adobe yesterday completed its $240 million takeover of content management system vendor Day Software.

With the acquisition now a done deal, Day will operate as a new product line within Adobe’s Digital Enterprise Solutions Business Unit. Day Chief Executive Officer Erik Hansen will report directly to Rob Tarkoff, senior vice president and general manager of the unit. The rest of Day’s senior management have also joined Adobe.

Due to remain in its home base of Switzerland, Day makes a content management system geared for enterprise customers. The company’s flagship software suite, called CQ5, offers Web content, digital asset management, and social-collaboration tools. Adobe is looking to Day’s software to enhance its own lineup of enterprise products and sell its Flash, Flex,
Creative Suite, and LiveCycle tools to Day’s corporate customers.

Some of the companies using Day’s CMS suite include Volkswagen, BMW, Gap, General Motors, Nissan, Skype, and MTV. In July, Day reported record sales growth and strong operating profits for the first half of 2010, helped by an increase of 23 new customers for CQ5 just in the second quarter.

“With our 71 percent total revenue growth year over year for the three month period ended September 30, 2010, the need for Day’s innovative Web Content Management capabilities is clear,” Hansen said in a statement. “The opportunities are immense in the rapidly growing market of customer experience management, making it an exciting time to join Adobe.”

Content management frees up 40% of working day

Software enhances editorial accuracy across teams

Dubai UAE: Content management software can free up to sixty four hours every working month according to Steve Davis, President of Author-it Software Corporation, the ‘new age’ content management company.

He said that an average of eight days a month are wasted on re-editing and correction by everyone engaged in content creation and management, stressing that Author-it software eliminates this wastage and allow this time to be used elsewhere.

Author-it is a content management system that enables multiple writers to work together to update, change or create documents from several locations with zero risk of error or misuse.

“Content management software slashes error probability, provides greatly enhanced content security and it also works well as a resource management tool,” said Davis.

“Presently, with most organisations in a cost conscious mode, the ability to virtually negate content error and make more than one week a month available for enhanced productivity to boot, is a no-brainer.”

Davis noted that traditional methods of documentation management demand a high resource quotient and often leave content wide open for mis-management. He said that this can result in loss of information, credibility and business. In extreme cases, companies have been forced to cover huge compliance-related litigation costs.

Citing a recent survey, Davis said that the error ratio was above 30 per cent for basic business documents.

“Poor spelling and grammar in marketing and sales documentation is both unforgiveable and is bound to put off clients. However, the truth of the matter is that more than one in three business documents contain errors. In this cycle of dwindling business and increased regulation, this is highly dangerous.”

Davis said that Author-it enables accurate collaborative writing, editing, content management and publishing across teams and locations, using features such as access and permission control, information sharing and re-use and multi-output publishing all with compete edit history and audit controls.

“Increasingly, organisations are placing more value on the compliance and the credibility of information. Indeed, the commitment towards compliance has further highlighted the need for a foolproof content management system.  Author-it stamps out content duplication and inconsistency of all kinds.

“We have had great feedback from the retail and banking sectors particularly,” he concluded.

Davis is set to speak on the intelligent use of content in compliance at the upcoming GCC Cards Summit (Bahrain, November 2-3 2010), and to the Bahrain and UAE business community at special workshop sessions on November 4 and 8 respectively.

Magnolia CMS Issues Major Case Study on Navy.com

NEW YORK, NY–(Marketwire – 10/28/10) – Magnolia, the open source content management vendor that delivers simplicity on an enterprise scale, today announced publication of a major case study detailing how Magnolia CMS was employed to help energize the U.S. Navy’s web recruiting.

C-E (Campbell-Ewald), one of the nation’s largest advertising, direct and digital communications agencies, redesigned Navy.com to be more interactive, more responsive to user needs, and better integrated with Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and other social media networks and communities. The new site supporting the new “America*s Navy” brand, now runs on Magnolia CMS Enterprise Edition with Magnolia STK and Blossom, Magnolia’s instant Spring integration.

“Previously, Navy.com was 400+ pages of XHTML and JSP code meaning even the slightest change was laborious and time consuming,” said Jason Macemore, Digital Experience Planner, C-E. “We knew, in the redesign, this process had to become more streamlined as providing our target audience with ‘evergreen content’ and being able to update the site in near real-time was a critical factor in a successful redesign.”

C-E efforts continue to help the Navy achieve recruiting mission objectives, including a record 111 straight months of meeting General Enlistment recruitment goals. In 2009, Navy.com helped process approximately 600,000 leads and deliver more than 55,000 Naval recruits.

“Magnolia is a great system to work in. We can input content within the templates, design/format the content on each page to best show it off without multiple rounds between designers and developers,” said Mary Broedell, Senior Multi Media Art Director, C-E. “It gives us the freedom to create within an easy to use interface and a time efficient process.”

“The manner in which video, photography, and graphic assets are integrated into Magnolia and made available to the visitor allows for a robust and informative experience,” said Joe Gaulzetti, Group Management Supervisor, C-E. “So much so that average time on the site is 11 minutes; video consumption is extensive, while page views are down — not a bad thing as the site redesign, via Magnolia, now provides sought after information in a more immediately findable manner.”
